Good for You

The exhibition DANIEL FLEUR presents the first solo show of Swedish artist Daniel Fleur at EDJI Gallery. The works explore the human pursuit of pleasure and wellbeing as a means of coping with contemporary uncertainties, conflicts, and information overload. Fleur's paintings depict rituals of comfort and control, such as yoga, cold plunges, cosmetic procedures, and moments of indulgence, examining how individuals seek to improve their lives through self-improvement, or simple enjoyment of food and drink.

Fleur utilizes grisaille, a technique of underpainting in shades of grey before adding color, drawing on traditions of European figurative and still life painting. This method contrasts with his modern subject matter, creating a dialogue between historical art practices and current aspirations. The works subtly question the balance between care and excess, and the potential pressure of a society focused on self-improvement. The exhibition title, "Good for You," reflects this ambiguity, suggesting both encouragement and ironic observation of contemporary desires.
